Meeting Point: Kollegiengebäude University of Basel, Registration Office

Hoffmann La Roche Building 2 – A living artwork by the French botanist Patrick Blanc

Leader: Pascal Eicher, responsible for maintenance
In September 2021, the largest plant wall designed and realized by Patrick Blanc in Switzerland was planted in the tallest office building in Switzerland, Building 2 of Roche in Basel. The two walls have an area of 128 m² and include more than 4000 plants. The vertical garden is the defining element of the spacious gastro area on the ground floor. In a sensual interplay with the interior architecture, the unique interior greening becomes plant art in the building. Architects: Herzog & DeMeuron

A Superlative Facade Greening at the Stücki Park Shopping Center

Two large-scale facade greenings with different features were realized here: Plant troughs placed per floor harmonize as an entire green area. The various plant species climb on wire ropes and shape the facade image. The other solution on the back of the building impresses with x-shaped tensioned wire ropes, from the ground via steel stairs to the roof edge. An additional, suspended and natural facade is created.

Architects: Diener & Diener, Basel

And it smells good! Facade Greening “Wisteria Alley” Feldbergstrasse

An “icon” and a milestone in the ecological enhancement of street spaces, over 60 wisterias have been greening, cooling, and enriching Feldbergstrasse for 30 years. What should be considered for successful facade greenings, how can we best enhance entire streets with climbing plants?

Lunchbreak

Facade and Roof Greening in Gundeldingerfeld – A Variety of Green Artworks! – with the Addition of a Wall Greening

An intoxicating area with countless niches and plant artworks, new ideas for the green and climate-adapted city of the future. Sponge city roof greenings, watered with brewery wastewater, and a fantastic green wall round off the plant fireworks!

Green Wall, Parking Garage West, Allschwil

A 19-meter-high green wall is located on the north side of the parking garage in Allschwil. Around 2,200 plants are located on an area of 28 m².

Facade Greening Climbing Roses in Elsässerstrasse and Others in St. Johann

Rosier times for Elsässerstrasse – The association Ökostadt Basel has taken up an idea with the project “Roses for Elsässerstrasse,” which combines urban ecological concerns, private engagement of homeowners and residents, and enhancement of public spaces. On a tour starting from the climbing rose greening on house facades, a walk through St. Johann is made to show various typologies of facade greenings.

Facade Greenings in the Historic City Center

On a short concluding tour in the historic old town, we show beautiful examples of facade greenings in connection with listed buildings.
